English Teachers! Get Your Kids to Read Chaucer
If you think your class would like to read the classics in a more modern setting, Check out ‘Insomniac Tales by Chaucer’s Women’ at DLSIJ Press.
The book came about when several DLSIJ authors decided to each take one of Chaucer’s 14th Century ‘Canterbury Tales’ and write it from a woman’s point of view. Each author could set ther tale when and where she wished.
Insomniac Women is a great book, and it could serve you well in introducing your kids to classic English Literature. Authors have set Chaucer’s tales from cave times to the future, on other planets, and here on earth.
With Insominac Tales by Chaucer’s Women, you could turn kids on to story telling and writing as well as literature. You could assign a student to read a couple of the Insomniac Tales, and then compare them to Chaucer’s original ‘Canterbury Tales.’
As you know, Chaucer based his ‘Canterbury Tales’ on the premise that as a group of Pligrims made their way to the cathedral at Canterbury, each would tell a story to pass the time. They related very solid and universal sagas with universal human feelings, motivations, and needs.
DLSIJ authors set the Canterbury Tales in a spa. A thunderstorm hits. The lights go off. All the women at the spa gather in its lobby and start telling stories to drive away the fear of the storm.
The result is a lot of fun for everybody. Check out Insomniac Tales by Chaucer’s Women at dlsijpress.com![]()
