It’s that time of year again…
There is something magical about spring. As soon as I see the Bradford pears coming to life and boasting their lush branches and moonlit blooms, I take off my shoes and dig my toes into the rich, red Alabama clay. Spring brings back all of the most precious memories of my youth–a childhood spent with relatives who have long since gone, campouts by the creek, Sunday picnic lunches, and my first love.
Before I started to write Finding Lilies, I knew that I wanted to weave the majestic natural beauty of the South into a touching love story. I wanted the main characters to experience first love’s glorious pleasures and tumultuous struggles amidst the backdrop of warm Alabama nights sprinkled with fireflies, Carolina jasmine wafting through the air.
Blake Adams isn’t looking for love on an unseasonably warm September night, but when she sees Jackson Ellington walking beneath a moonlit maze of oaks in the middle of campus, she knows she’ll never forget him. Jackson is the son of a Mississippi senator, blessed with dark good looks and a smile that can melt a girl’s heart in an instant. He’d never met a girl like Blake before–smart, funny, kind and unbelievably beautiful.
They fall for each other quickly, spending every spare moment together. But as quickly as they fall in love, their world begins to fall apart. Death and betrayal leave them both devastated, and they painfully decide to separate. Heartbroken, Blake tries to pick up the pieces, but she soon learns that the world is unbearable without Jackson. Ultimately, life brings them face to face again, and they must decide if their love is more powerful than the forces that have kept them apart.
